Carbon rim with basalt braking surface and alloy braking surface.
Basalt is a naturally fire-resistant hard and dense volcanic rock that in the last decade has emerged as a leader in the fiber reinforcement of composites. Continuous fibers are extruded from the basalt rock and this basalt fiber has amazing thermal dissipation properties which is optimized on the carbon rim braking surface.
The basalt fiber is bonded it to the braking surface to minimize heat buildup and improve overall stopping performance of the carbon wheel.
This rim has a high-temperature resistant basalt braking surface that dissipates heat build-up and provides consistently solid braking, even in hot temperatures on long descents. No Aluminum braking surface needed! Less rotational weight = faster acceleration!

Aluminum braking surfaces generally stop in all weather conditions and do not require special brake pads. Carbon braking surfaces require special brake pads, do not stop as well in wet weather, and are more sensitive to overheating under heavy braking conditions.
